A rebrand that represents 35,000 students.
As rebranding projects go, this was pretty big. The MMU Students' Union has over 35,000 members across both their Manchester and Cheshire campuses and the challenge of the brief was to create an immediate and memorable Brand Identity, with integrated communications to all its target audiences.
We got to know them.
We started the way we always do. We got to the heart of their brand with a series of workshops with key stakeholders, SU officers, managers and students. What we learned through this immersion process fed directly into our creative thinking and led to the new name and Brand Identity, along with the detailed Brand and Integrated Marketing Guidelines.
And then we made them smile.
This is the ‘smiley’. It’s immediately inviting, it breaks the barriers of typefaces and languages. The demographics were such that there were a number of very distinct market segments, with a diverse and often complex range of messages to be conveyed across multiple platforms.
We also took the rebrand from the digital through to the physical. Designing the way-finding system and three key commercial interior spaces (The Bar, Hall and Shop) of the new £10m students union building.See the website
